Born in London to actress Jessie Evans and director Donald Bain, she faced early challenges with dyslexia but persevered to forge a successful career in the performing arts. Bain honed her craft at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, laying the foundation for her future successes.

Her career took off in 1973 when she made her television debut in the BBC's Thirty-Minute Theatre. Bain soon established herself in the theater scene, making a notable West End debut in the production of Daisy Pulls It Off at the Globe Theatre, where her vibrant performances captivated audiences.
