Judy Canova, born Juliette Canova on November 20, 1913, was a multifaceted American comedienne, actress, singer, and radio personality. Her illustrious career spanned over five decades, showcasing her talents on Broadway, in films, and on radio. Canova's rise to fame began when bandleader Rudy Vallée invited her to appear on his radio show, The Fleischmann Hour, in 1931, when she was just a teenager. This opportunity led to an array of performances in the 1930s, including the Broadway revue Calling All Stars.

In film, Canova signed with Republic Pictures after initial roles at Warner Bros., appearing in notable projects such as Scatterbrain (1940), Joan of Ozark (1942), and Lay That Rifle Down (1955). She also made her mark in radio with her self-titled program, The Judy Canova Show, which aired from 1943 to 1955 on CBS and NBC. In this series, she humorously portrayed a lovesick Ozark bumpkin navigating life between her hometown and Southern California.

After the radio show concluded, Canova seamlessly transitioned to television, making guest appearances on popular programs like The Colgate Comedy Hour and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In 1967, she took on the role of Mammy Yokum in an unsold TV pilot based on Al Capp's Li'l Abner. Her versatility extended to Broadway and Las Vegas, with a notable tour of No, No Nanette in 1971. Recognized for her contributions to entertainment, Canova was honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She passed away on August 5, 1983.
