Xavier Saint-Macary, a notable French actor, gained prominence in 1973 after portraying the lover of Jean-Pierre Aumont in François Truffaut's acclaimed film *La Nuit américaine*. That same year, he captivated audiences as the Count de Guiche alongside Claude Jade in *Le Château perdu*. His career continued to flourish throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a significant role as Martin in Alain Cavalier's *Martin et Léa* in 1979.

In 1981, he showcased his versatility playing Ronald in Jean-Marie Poiré's comedy *Les hommes préfèrent les grosses*. Saint-Macary reunited with Truffaut in 1983 for *Vivement dimanche !*, taking on the role of Bertrand Fabre, the ex-husband of Fanny Ardant's character. His collaborations extended to notable works with director Patrice Leconte, where he starred alongside Michel Blanc and Anémone in *Ma femme s'appelle reviens* (1982). Additionally, he portrayed the husband of Danièle Évenou in the television series *Marie-Pervenche*, which aired from 1984 to 1986.

Sadly, his promising career was cut short when he passed away from a heart attack on March 13, 1988, in Paris, just shy of his 40th birthday. His final film appearance was in Claude Sautet's *Quelques jours avec moi*, released in the same year. Saint-Macary's contributions to French cinema remain cherished by fans and colleagues alike.
