Don Johnson
Donald Wayne Johnson, born on December 15, 1949, is an accomplished American actor, producer, director, singer, and songwriter. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of Detective James "Sonny" Crockett in the iconic 1980s series Miami Vice, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe Award.
In 1984, after a decade of television roles, Johnson achieved fame as the undercover detective Sonny Crockett in Michael Mann's cop drama Miami Vice, which aired from 1984 to 1990. This role catapulted him to international stardom, with Rolling Stone remarking, "No one had more swagger in the Reagan era than Don Johnson."
His remarkable performance in Miami Vice garnered him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama in 1986, and he received a nomination for the same accolade in the following year. Additionally, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1985. During breaks from the series, he further expanded his popularity through appearances in television miniseries such as the 1985 adaptation of The Long, Hot Summer. Johnson also starred alongside Kevin Costner and Rene Russo in the 1996 film Tin Cup and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that same year.
From 1996 to 2001, he headlined the CBS police drama Nash Bridges, featuring an ensemble cast that included Cheech Marin and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe. In October 2010, he joined HBO’s Eastbound & Down as Kenny Powers' estranged father, "Eduardo Sanchez." He reprised his role as Sonny Crockett in a Nike commercial featuring LeBron James.
