Virginia Sale

Virginia Sale (May 20, 1899 – August 23, 1992) was a distinguished American character actress whose prolific career spanned an impressive sixty years. Known for her portrayal of older women, Sale often took on roles that belied her actual age, beginning her career in her twenties. Throughout her active years, which lasted nearly half a century, she showcased her talents across various mediums, including film, stage, radio, and television.

One of her most notable achievements was her acclaimed one-woman show, *Americana Sketches*, which captivated audiences with over 1,000 performances over a remarkable 15-year period. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, she gained further recognition by co-starring alongside her husband, actor and studio executive Sam Wren, in one of television's early family comedies, *Wren's Nest*.

Sale's personal life was enriched by her role as a mother, welcoming fraternal twins, Virginia and Christopher, in 1936. As her career progressed, she continued to appear on television and in commercials, maintaining her presence in the entertainment industry until her later years. Virginia Sale passed away from heart failure at the age of 93 at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of versatility and dedication in the performing arts.
