Jack Cassidy

John Joseph Edward “Jack” Cassidy (March 5, 1927 – December 12, 1976) was a distinguished American actor renowned for his work across theater, film, and television.

Cassidy was celebrated for embodying a suave, self-assured character often reminiscent of the iconic Broadway performer Frank Fay. His portrayal of the legendary John Barrymore in the film *W.C. Fields and Me* showcased his ability to bring larger-than-life personalities to the screen. Although he was offered the role of the pompous news anchor Ted Baxter on the beloved television series *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970–1977), Cassidy declined, believing the role did not suit him. The character ultimately went to Ted Knight, but Cassidy made a memorable guest appearance in 1971 as Hal, Ted’s equally ambitious brother, demonstrating his knack for comedic roles.
