Stefanos Linaios
Stefanos Linaios, born on August 6, 1928, is a multifaceted Greek actor, writer, director, and theatrical entrepreneur, who also ventured into politics, serving as a member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and a Member of Parliament for the 1st Athens constituency between 1989 and 1990. He completed his studies at the Athens Theatre School in 1951 and later furthered his education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in 1969.
From 1954 to 1967, Linaios worked with over 20 theatre companies, contributing to around 100 theatrical productions, while also making his mark in the film industry with appearances in 100 films, as well as radio and television broadcasts. Since 1970, he has directed and starred in approximately 50 plays, along with numerous radio and television projects. He established the Contemporary Greek Theatre troupe at the Alpha Theatre in Athens, significantly impacting the local arts scene.
An accomplished writer, Linaios penned short stories including "Some Deaths" and authored significant studies such as "Modern Theatre" and "TV as a Means of Education," which influenced the creation of the educational television service at ERT. He served as the general secretary of the Greek Actors' Association from 1966 to 1967 but faced dismissal from the position due to his political stance during the junta. Since 1975, he has been an advisor to the Panhellenic Union of Free Theatre and the Greek Theatre Centre. Additionally, he is a member of the British Actors' Association. Linaios is married to actress Elli Fotiou, and they have two children, Margarita and Alexis.
