Brian Dooley hails from Sherbrooke, Quebec, where he was born and raised. He earned his B.A. Honours from Bishop's University in 1977 and furthered his education in theatre at the National Theatre School of Canada. With a career spanning over three decades, Dooley has made significant contributions to both theatre and television, both in Canada and internationally.

In April 2016, he showcased his versatility by performing in both French and English in L'UniThéâtre's production of The Passion of Narcisse Mondoux, portraying an aging plumber in love with a recently widowed woman. Shortly thereafter, he took on the role of a hopelessly intoxicated father in Theatre Network's Gordon by Morris Panych. Dooley became the Artistic Director of L'UniThéâtre in 2012, succeeding Daniel Cournoyer, and also serves as the director of play development at the Citadel Theatre.

In addition to his theatrical pursuits, Dooley has made his mark in television, creating popular series for LIFE Network such as The Things We Do For Love and Who’s On Top, as well as producing content for the National Geographic and HISTORY channels. His extensive experience includes working with major broadcasters like CBC, BBC, and CTV.

Before transitioning into producing, Dooley had a successful acting career, receiving a Gemini nomination for Best Supporting Actor in The Boys of St. Vincent and earning multiple nominations for his performances, including Dora Mavor Moore and Betty Mitchell awards. He has also been recognized with two AMPIA awards for his work on a CBC drama pilot, The Beat.
