Aaliyah Dana Haughton (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was a multifaceted American artist, celebrated as a singer, actress, dancer, and model. Often referred to as the "Princess of R&B" and the "Queen of Urban Pop," she played an instrumental role in reshaping the landscape of contemporary R&B, pop, and hip hop music. Aaliyah’s career was marked by numerous accolades, including three American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and five Grammy nominations.

Raised in Detroit after her birth in Brooklyn, Aaliyah’s talent shone early. By age 10, she gained national attention on "Star Search" and soon performed with Gladys Knight. At just 12, she signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records, where she collaborated with R. Kelly on her debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" (1994), which achieved double platinum status in the U.S., selling over three million copies.

Her sophomore album, "One in a Million" (1996), produced by Timbaland and Missy Elliott, further propelled her success, selling over eight million copies globally. Aaliyah made her film debut in "Romeo Must Die" (2000), contributing the hit single "Try Again," which made history by topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart based solely on airplay. Following the release of her self-titled third album in 2001, which included hits like "We Need a Resolution" and "Rock the Boat," Aaliyah's life was tragically cut short at the age of 22 in a plane crash.

Despite her untimely death, Aaliyah’s legacy endures through her music, with posthumous compilations like "I Care 4 U" (2002) and "Ultimate Aaliyah" (2005). She has sold an estimated 8.
