Marco Simoncelli (Italian pronunciation: [ˈmarko simonˈtʃɛlli]; born 20 January 1987 – deceased 23 October 2011) was a notable motorcycle racer from Italy. His career in the Road Racing World Championship spanned a decade, from 2002 until 2011. Initially, he began his racing journey in the 125cc category before advancing to the 250cc category in 2006. In 2008, he achieved remarkable success by clinching the 250cc World Championship while riding for Gilera. After competing for four years in the intermediate class, he transitioned to the premier MotoGP class, joining the Honda Gresini Team. Tragically, Simoncelli's life was cut short due to a fatal accident during the Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang on 23 October 2011. His untimely passing shocked the motorsport community and left a lasting impact on fans and fellow racers alike. Simoncelli is remembered not only for his talent and competitive spirit on the track but also for his distinctive riding style and charismatic personality.
