John Dossett
John Dossett is a distinguished American actor and singer known for his contributions to theater and television.
His passion for the performing arts ignited during his time at Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware, where he participated in student plays and engaged with the school's radio station, WMPH.
Dossett made his Broadway debut in 1979 with the musical The King of Schnorrers, a production that had a brief run. In 1982, he joined the cast of Fifth of July, and thereafter, he primarily focused on off-Broadway performances and television roles. He was a prominent member of the Circle Repertory Company, where he showcased his talent in numerous productions from 1980 to 1994.
His career reached new heights with leading roles in acclaimed musicals such as Ragtime (1998) and the 2003 revival of Gypsy alongside Bernadette Peters. His performance in Gypsy earned him nominations for both a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. One of his noteworthy film credits includes the 1990 AIDS drama Longtime Companion. In September 2007, he reunited with Peters for a benefit reading of Love Letters.
Dossett participated in the world premiere of Michael John LaChiusa's musical Giant at the Signature Theatre, Arlington, Virginia, until May 31, 2009. He then portrayed "Aaron" in The First Wives Club musical starting in July 2009 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
He is married to actress Michele Pawk, whom he met during their collaboration on the off-Broadway musical Hello Again. The couple has a son, Jack, born in 2000, and they both performed together in the musical Mamma Mia! in 2005. They currently reside in South Orange, New Jersey. As of September 2009, Dossett returned to Broadway in Mamma Mia!, playing the role of Sam Carmichael alongside Tony Award winner Beth Leavel
