Jean-Benoît Dunckel, born on September 7, 1969, is a prominent French musician renowned for his role as one half of the acclaimed electronic duo Air, alongside Nicolas Godin. His musical journey began in the 1980s when he co-founded the band Orange with Alex Gopher, Xavier Jamaux, and Jean de Reydellet. Before fully committing to music, Dunckel pursued studies in mathematics and physics, even teaching at a middle school in Paris.

Since the formation of Air in 1995, Dunckel has played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of the group, known for their ethereal soundscapes and influential albums. Venturing into solo work, he released his debut album under the moniker Darkel in September 2006. In 2011, he teamed up with Lou Hayter to establish Tomorrow's World, culminating in their debut album in 2013.

Dunckel has also collaborated with Barði Jóhannsson to form Starwalker, releasing an EP in March 2014 and a full-length album in April 2016. His other notable works include the 2015 mini-album "The Man of Sorrow" and the soundtrack for the film "The Summer of Sangailé."

In 2018, he unveiled his second solo album, "H+," and followed up with "Carbon" in June 2022, exploring the theme of technology's potential to save the world. The album received a favorable review from AllMusic. Looking ahead, Dunckel will compose the score for the upcoming film "The Good Teacher," set to release in 2024.
