Richard Cawthorne is an accomplished Australian actor, born in Hong Kong in 1976. He is the younger of two siblings; his mother, Zelda, worked as a journalist for the South China Morning Post, while his father, Russell, held a marketing executive position at Golden Harvest Studios, a prominent film company in Hong Kong. After completing his education in the UK, Richard relocated to Australia in the mid-1990s. He began his acting journey at St Martins Youth Arts Centre before further honing his craft at Melbourne's National Theatre, from which he graduated in 1999.
Cawthorne's career took off with early guest roles on various Australian television programs, eventually leading to a semi-regular role as 'Ruban 'Roo' Hausman' on the long-running soap opera Neighbours (1985), during the years 2004 and 2005. In 2003, he starred in the independent film Razor Eaters, earning critical acclaim despite the film's lack of commercial success. His performance garnered him the Best Actor Award at the Shreikfest Film Festival in Los Angeles in 2005.
