Jay McCarrol
Jay McCarrol is a multi-talented Canadian musician, writer, and actor, best recognized for his collaboration with Matt Johnson as the co-creator and co-star of the acclaimed series Nirvanna the Band the Show.
Throughout his career, McCarrol has earned notable recognition within the industry, receiving three Canadian Screen Award nominations for his exceptional musical contributions. His work garnered accolades for Best Original Music for a Program at the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards in 2013 for I, Martin Short, Goes Home, and again at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards in 2016 for The Second City Project. Most recently, he was nominated for Best Original Score at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021 for his work on The Kid Detective.
In addition to his musical achievements, McCarrol has been acknowledged for his writing skills, receiving two CSA nominations for Best Writing in a Comedy Program or Series for his role in Nirvanna the Band the Show at the 6th and 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Beyond television, McCarrol has contributed to several of Johnson’s feature films, including The Dirties, Operation Avalanche, and BlackBerry. He is also a member of the synth-pop band Brave Shores, performing alongside his sister, Stefanie, showcasing his diverse talents in the Canadian entertainment landscape.
