Ella Lily Hyland
Ella Lily Hyland is an emerging Irish actress hailing from Carlow, Ireland. Born into a family with a rich athletic heritage—her grandfather, Dinny Hyland, was a record-setting pole vaulter and her cousin, Jamie Hyland, excelled as an All-Ireland schools champion in athletics—Ella initially explored her own talents in pole vaulting and long jump during her teenage years. Her passion for the arts led her to become a member of the County Carlow Youth Theatre Group and the National Youth Theatre, where she honed her craft. In 2015, she showcased her acting abilities in the play "Salt Mountain" by Carmel Winters at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin, marking a significant step in her career.
Hyland gained recognition for her lead role in the 2023 Amazon Prime Video drama series "Fifteen-Love," where she starred opposite Aidan Turner. Her portrayal earned critical acclaim, with Lucy Mangan from The Guardian describing her performance as "mesmerising" and "absolutely superlative." Following this success, she appeared in the Scottish film "Silent Roar" and was highlighted as "the breakout star" in the Netflix series "Black Doves," alongside Keira Knightley.
In September 2024, she made her debut at the Abbey Theatre, portraying the title character in Lady Gregory's "Grania." Looking ahead, Hyland will take part in Steven Knight's historical drama series "A Thousand Blows" and the BBC's adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Towards Zero" in 2025, where she plays the complex character Audrey Strange.
