Kirk Torrance is a prominent New Zealand actor and playwright of Māori descent, who has also made a name for himself as a former Commonwealth Games swimmer. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Acting from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in Wellington, which laid the foundation for his impressive career in the arts.

Torrance made his mark in the theater world with his debut play, Strata, in 2003, which earned him the Best New Playwright award at the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards.
