Mieke Wijaya, born Miecke Marie de Rijder on March 17, 1940, in Indonesia, was a multi-talented actress, model, and singer whose impact on the entertainment industry spanned several decades. She gained significant recognition for her performances in film, winning the prestigious Best Actress award at the Indonesian Film Festival for her roles in "Gadis Kerudung Putih" (White Veil Girl) in 1966 and "Kembang Semusim" (Semasa Flower) in 1980.

Mieke's television career began with her appearance in the series "Rumah Masa Depan" in 1984, but it was her role in the 1986 series "Losmen," adapted from the works of Tatiek Maliyati and Wahyu Sihombing, that truly elevated her fame. She became affectionately known as Bu Broto, captivating audiences and even inspiring a devoted fan to reach out after returning from Bangkok to discuss an episode he had missed.

In 1987, Mieke shifted her focus away from films to concentrate on soap operas and her fashion venture, Mieke Wijaya Jeans Collection. After the Indonesian film industry faced challenges in 1992, she thrived in soap operas such as "Antara Jakarta-Perth" (1995-1998), for which she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Asian Soap Opera Festival, and continued to grace screens until her final role in the miniseries "Supir dan Majikan" in 2019.

Beyond her entertainment career, Mieke was also involved in politics, joining the United Development Party in 1999 and participating in a mass meeting led by Hamzah Haz. Mieke Wijaya passed away on May 3, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of talent and influence in Indonesian culture.
