Robert Dudley (September 13, 1869 – November 12, 1955) was a former dentist who transitioned into a prominent film character actor, leaving an indelible mark on the cinema of his time with over 115 film appearances spanning 35 years. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dudley honed his educational background at Lake Forest College and in Chicago, specializing in oral surgery.

His cinematic journey began in 1917 with the silent film "Seven Keys to Baldpate," followed by several other silent projects until the early 1920s. After 1922, Dudley maintained a steady presence in the film industry, showcasing his versatility by appearing in three to four films annually. He adeptly navigated the advent of sound films, making his debut in this new era with "The Bellamy Trial" in 1929. Known for portraying characters with fiery tempers, Dudley often played jurors, shopkeepers, and justices of the peace, frequently in uncredited roles.

During the 1940s, he became a notable figure in Preston Sturges' ensemble of character actors, featuring in six of Sturges’ films. His most memorable performance came as the whimsical "Wienie King" in the 1942 classic "The Palm Beach Story," where he charmed audiences as a quirky millionaire aiding the protagonists.

Standing at 5'9", Dudley was also the founder of the "Troupers Club of Hollywood." He was married to Elaine Anderson, and together they raised two daughters, Jewell and Patricia Lee. His final film, "As Young as You Feel," was released in 1951, and he passed away in San Clemente, California.
