József Kreul Bugner, born on March 13, 1950, is a former heavyweight boxer and actor who holds Hungarian, British, and Australian nationalities. Originally from Szőreg, near Szeged in Hungary, Bugner and his family relocated to Britain after the Soviet invasion in 1956. With an imposing height of 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and a competitive weight around 220 pounds (100 kg), he became a notable figure in the boxing world during the 1970s.

Bugner gained prominence in the heavyweight division, challenging the legendary Muhammad Ali for the heavyweight title in 1975, though he lost by unanimous decision. His boxing accolades include holding the British and British Commonwealth heavyweight titles twice, as well as being a three-time European heavyweight champion. Throughout his career, he faced a roster of formidable opponents including Joe Frazier, Ron Lyle, and Henry Cooper, earning recognition as one of the top ten heavyweights of his era.

After retiring from boxing in 1976, Bugner made several comebacks over the following decades. He moved to Australia in 1986, where he was dubbed "Aussie Joe" and achieved victories over notable fighters like Greg Page and James Tillis. In 1995, he captured the Australian heavyweight title and, at the age of 48, won the World Boxing Federation heavyweight championship in 1998 against James "Bonecrusher" Smith. He concluded his boxing career in 1999, finishing with a record of 69 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw, including 43 knockouts. In addition to his boxing career, Bugner is recognized for his role in the 1994 action film Street Fighter alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme.
