Gary Morton
Gary Morton, originally named Morton Goldaper, was born on December 19, 1924, in New York City and passed away on March 30, 1999. He was a prominent Jewish American stand-up comedian known for his performances at the renowned Borscht Belt resorts in upstate New York, where he captivated audiences with his comedic style.
In 1960, Morton’s life took a significant turn when he met the legendary actress Lucille Ball in New York City, just months before she debuted in the Broadway musical "Wildcat." Notably, Morton admitted that his busy schedule working night gigs had kept him from watching her iconic television show, "I Love Lucy." The couple wed on November 19, 1961, at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. To silence any suggestions of ulterior motives regarding their marriage, Morton signed a prenuptial agreement, despite being 13 years younger than the beloved television star.
Throughout his life, Morton enjoyed a successful career, not only as a comedian but also as a producer and writer. His contributions to the entertainment industry, particularly in comedy, have left a lasting impact. Despite being in the shadow of his famous wife, Gary Morton’s legacy as a talented performer remains significant in the annals of American comedy.
