Randy Poffo
Randy Mario Poffo, born on November 15, 1952, and who passed away on May 20, 2011, is widely celebrated as "Macho Man" Randy Savage, a legendary figure in American professional wrestling. His illustrious career spanned over three decades, most notably with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
Savage earned acclaim as one of the sport's all-time greats, a sentiment echoed by many in the wrestling community, including sportswriter Bill Simmons. He became a household name thanks to his strikingly vibrant ring costumes, a distinctive raspy voice, and his electrifying presence both inside and outside the ring. His entrance music, the "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1" by Edward Elgar, coupled with his iconic catchphrase "Oooh yeah!" made him a memorable character in wrestling history. He was often managed by his then-wife, Miss Elizabeth Hulette, adding to his appeal.
Throughout his career, Savage achieved six world championship titles, with two reigns as WWF World Heavyweight Champion and four as WCW World Heavyweight Champion, showcasing drawing power akin to that of Hulk Hogan. He also held the title of WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion, recognized by WWE as one of the greatest to ever hold the belt due to his outstanding in-ring skills.
Savage was crowned the 1987 WWF King of the Ring and won the 1995 WCW World War 3. He headlined iconic events, including WrestleManias IV, V, and VIII, and was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996, followed by a posthumous induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
