Michael Anthony Richards, born on July 24, 1949, is a prominent American actor, comedian, writer, and television producer, renowned primarily for his iconic role as the quirky Cosmo Kramer on the beloved sitcom Seinfeld.

Richards launched his career in stand-up comedy, gaining significant recognition when he appeared on Billy Crystal's inaugural cable special. He later became a regular on ABC's Fridays, showcasing his comedic talents. Before Seinfeld, he made memorable guest appearances on several popular series, including Cheers, Night Court, Miami Vice, and St. Elsewhere. His filmography features notable titles such as So I Married an Axe Murderer, Airheads, Young Doctors in Love, Problem Child, Coneheads, and UHF. During the Seinfeld era, he also made a guest appearance on Mad About You, further solidifying his comedic presence on television.

Following the conclusion of Seinfeld, Richards headlined his own sitcom, The Michael Richards Show, although it was short-lived and lasted less than a season. After its cancellation, he returned to stand-up comedy, but his career faced a setback in late 2006 when he sparked controversy during a performance by using racial slurs towards audience members. This incident led to his announcement of retirement from stand-up in 2007. In a return to the screen, Richards appeared as himself in the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009, reuniting with his Seinfeld co-stars for the first time since the series ended.
