Richard Briers

Richard David Briers, CBE, was a distinguished English actor whose remarkable career spanned fifty years across television, stage, film, and radio.

Briers initially gained attention for his role as George Starling in the popular series Marriage Lines, which aired from 1961 to 1966. However, it was in the 1970s that he truly became a beloved figure in British entertainment. His engaging narration in the animated series Roobarb and Noah and Nelly in... SkylArk (1974–76) captivated audiences, and his portrayal of Tom Good in the iconic BBC sitcom The Good Life (1975–78) solidified his status as a household name.

In the following years, he continued to shine, starring as Martin in the critically acclaimed sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles from 1984 to 1989. Later, he took on the role of Hector in Monarch of the Glen, which aired from 2000 to 2005, further showcasing his versatility as an actor. Briers also made significant contributions to the theatrical world, performing in several Shakespearean productions under the direction of Kenneth Branagh, including Henry V (1989), Much Ado About Nothing (1993), Hamlet (1996), and As You Like It (2006).
