Agnes Chow

1 title Acting Dec 03, 1996 British Hong Kong

Agnes Chow Ting (Chinese: 周庭; born December 3, 1996) is a prominent political figure and social activist from Hong Kong. Known for her dedication to democracy and human rights, she served as a member of the Standing Committee of Demosisto and as the spokesperson for Scholarism, a student-led movement advocating for educational reform and political change. In 2018, Chow made headlines when her candidacy for the Hong Kong Island by-election was obstructed by authorities, who were concerned about her party's stance on Hong Kong's self-determination.

Chow's activism intensified during the 2019–2020 protests in Hong Kong, where she was arrested in August 2019 for participating in a demonstration at police headquarters. In December 2020, she received a 10-month prison sentence for her involvement in these protests. Furthermore, in August 2020, she faced additional arrest under the National Security Law on charges of 'collusion with foreign forces,' though she was released on bail the following day.

In September 2023, seeking safety and the opportunity to further her education, Chow relocated to Canada to pursue a master’s degree at OCAD University, where she graduated in 2025. Her commitment to activism continues to inspire many within the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong and beyond.
