Tom Randall

1 title Acting Jan 01, 1981 South Africa

Tom Randall, born Thomas Paul Randall in South Africa, grew up in Sheffield, UK. He began climbing at the age of 16 and has since developed a passion for traditional (trad) climbing, making significant contributions to the climbing community with numerous first ascents worldwide, particularly in crack climbing. In 2011, he collaborated with Pete Whittaker to conquer the formidable Century Crack, the world’s hardest offwidth, a feat documented in Hotaches’ film "Wide Boyz." Currently, Tom is focused on achieving the first ascent of “The Crucifix” in the USA.

His enthusiasm for first ascents has led him to tackle hard trad routes in various locations, including Orco and Red Rocks. Known for his resilience, humor, and adventurous spirit, Tom has embraced unique challenges, ranging from the physically demanding to the intriguingly unconventional.

After suffering an injury that limited his ability to use crimps, Tom shifted his focus to crack climbing, ultimately developing a fascination with offwidth routes. His journey took him to the US, the epicenter of offwidth climbing, where he successfully completed the first ascent of Century Crack (5.14b). Continuing to push his limits, he later ascended Cobra Crack (5.14) in Squamish.

In addition to his climbing achievements, Tom holds the world record for the most routes soloed in a single day—550. His notable ascents include Pura Pura (5.14c), Dinas Crac (E9 7a), and One Infinity (8b+/8A+). Tom’s relentless passion for exploration and new challenges fuels his climbing journey.
