Joe Exotic
Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, commonly recognized as Joe Exotic and often referred to as "The Tiger King," was born on March 5, 1963. An American media figure and entrepreneur, he gained notoriety for his operation of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, or G.W. Zoo, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, where he was the owner from 1998 until 2018.
Exotic's life took many twists and turns, including a career as a chief of police, showcasing his diverse interests and skills. However, it was his flamboyant personality and controversial practices in the exotic animal business that captured national attention. He became a household name when Netflix released the docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" in March 2020, which chronicled his tumultuous life and legal battles, including his conviction on charges of animal abuse and a murder-for-hire plot.
Despite his legal troubles, Joe Exotic remains a significant figure in pop culture, representing a unique blend of fascination with big cats and the complexities of human ambition. His story has sparked discussions about animal rights and the ethics of exotic animal ownership, leaving an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and wildlife conservation conversations.
