Tab Thacker
Talmadge Layne "Tab" Thacker (March 10, 1962 – December 28, 2007) was a notable American wrestler and actor, best remembered for his impressive stature and talents both on the mat and on screen. Thacker achieved remarkable success in collegiate wrestling, securing the NCAA Division I heavyweight national championship in 1984 during his senior year.
His transition into the film industry began unexpectedly when Clint Eastwood recognized his potential after seeing him featured in Time magazine. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 450 pounds, Thacker's commanding presence led to roles in several notable films, including *City Heat*, *Wildcats*, and two installments of the *Police Academy* series, as well as the film *Identity Crisis*.
After his Hollywood career, Thacker returned to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he shifted his focus to entrepreneurship, establishing a remodeling business and managing various nightclubs. Eventually, he ventured into the bail bonds business, further diversifying his career.
Tragically, Thacker's life was cut short at the age of 45 when he succumbed to health complications related to diabetes, which had led to the amputation of his foot in the years prior to his passing on December 28, 2007. His legacy continues to inspire many in both the wrestling and entertainment communities.
