**Richard Coogan Biography**

Richard Coogan, born on April 4, 1914, in Short Hills, New Jersey, is an American actor celebrated for his iconic role as Captain Video from 1949 to 1950. Coogan began his career in radio, notably portraying Abie Levy in the popular program *Abie's Irish Rose*. His theatrical experience includes five Broadway productions between 1945 and 1955, with standout performances in *Diamond Lil* alongside Mae West and *The Rainmaker*, both of which garnered attention despite their limited runs.

Coogan's transition to television began when he joined the DuMont Television Network, where he took on the role of Captain Video on June 27, 1949. His commitments to both the show and the Broadway stage led to a grueling schedule, as he would rush from live telecasts to performances in *Diamond Lil*. However, growing dissatisfaction with the production's budget and character led him to depart from the series in December 1950, after which Al Hodge assumed the role.

Following his time on *Captain Video*, Coogan starred as Paul Raven in the soap opera *Love of Life* and appeared in several films, including *Three Hours to Kill* and *The Revolt of Mamie Stover*. He also gained recognition for his portrayal of Marshal Matthew Wayne in the NBC series *The Californians* and had recurring roles in shows like *Vice Raid*. After a prolific career in film and television, Coogan stepped back from acting around 1964, later finding fulfillment as a professional golfer and instructor.
