Rick Ducommun
Rick Ducommun was a versatile Canadian comedian, actor, writer, and producer, celebrated for his memorable roles in both film and television. Born on July 3, 1952, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Ducommun grew up on a farm and discovered his passion for comedy during his teenage years. In the early 1980s, he relocated to Vancouver, where he gained initial fame as the host of the children's show Zig Zag.
Ducommun's film career took off in the mid-1980s with appearances in films like No Small Affair (1984) and A Fine Mess (1986). His breakthrough came in 1989, when he portrayed Art Weingartner, the inquisitive neighbor in Joe Dante's cult classic The 'Burbs. That same year, he starred as a monster-fighting children's show host in Little Monsters, solidifying his status in the industry.
Throughout the 1990s, Ducommun maintained a steady presence on screen, appearing in notable films such as Spaceballs (1987), Die Hard (1988), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), and The Hunt for Red October (1990). He also showcased his talent on television, with significant roles in series like Amazing Stories (1985-1987) and Max Headroom (1987-1988).
Although his career slowed in the 2000s, Ducommun continued to act, appearing in Scary Movie (2000) and MVP: Most Valuable Primate (2000), as well as a recurring role on Just Shoot Me! (1997-2003). He passed away on June 12, 2015, in Vancouver at the age of 62, after battling complications from diabetes.
