MacKenzie Porter
MacKenzie Porter hails from a cattle and bison ranch situated near Medicine Hat, Alberta. Her musical journey began at the tender age of four, when she started learning the piano, violin, and voice. She spent her childhood touring with her brother, Kalan Porter, who gained fame as the winner of Canadian Idol in 2004.
Porter has made her mark in the entertainment industry, featuring in various films and television shows, including the 2007 series Dinosapien. Her performance in the TV movie The Other Woman earned her the Best Actress in Alberta award, and she was recognized by BC Living magazine as one of the Top 11 Hottest Vancouver Actors to Watch in 2011.
Relocating to Vancouver to further her acting career, she formed the band The Black Boots with musician Andrew Jenkins. In 2010, she ventured into a solo music career, ultimately winning the Nashville North Star competition in 2011. Porter has shared the stage with notable artists like Kenny Chesney, Doc Walker, and Trooper, and has performed for prominent figures including Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Gene Simmons.
In October 2012, she released her debut single, "I Wish I'd Known," followed by her second single, "Never Gonna Let You," co-written and produced by Carolyn Dawn Johnson. In 2013, she was selected as one of six acts for the Canadian Country Music Association’s Discovery Program and received a nomination for the Rising Star Award at the CCMA Awards. Her first album is slated for release in 2014.
