Michael Henry "Nicko" McBrain, born on June 5, 1954, is a prominent English drummer, celebrated primarily for his role with the legendary heavy metal band Iron Maiden, which he joined in 1982. Before his iconic tenure with Iron Maiden, McBrain showcased his drumming talent with notable acts such as Pat Travers from 1976 to 1978 and the politically charged French punk band Trust. His musical journey began with The Streetwalkers, a blues-oriented ensemble.

The nickname "Nicko" was affectionately coined by keyboardist Billy Day, who introduced him as "My Italian drummer, his name’s 'Nicko'." Additionally, McBrain has shared that his childhood bear, named "Nicholas," was another source of the name, as his parents often referred to him as Nicky.
