Pola Negri

Pola Negri, born Barbara Apolonia Chałupiec on January 3, 1897, was a prominent Polish actress who rose to international acclaim during both the silent film era and the golden age of Hollywood. She is renowned for her compelling portrayals of tragic heroines and seductive femme fatales, making her one of the first European film stars to grace the Hollywood scene.

Negri's multifaceted career spanned various artistic avenues, including theatre, vaudeville, ballet, and music, showcasing her remarkable talent and versatility. She not only captivated audiences but also left a significant mark on the film industry. Her contributions were recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6933 Hollywood Boulevard, and she was the 11th person to immortalize her hand and footprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre. In addition, Negri received honors in her home country, including a star on Poland's Walk of Fame in Łódź and a commemorative postage stamp issued in her honor by the Polish postal service in 1996.

Her legacy continues to be celebrated, as evidenced by the Pola Negri Award presented at the Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles, acknowledging exceptional talent in the film industry, and the Polita Award from the Pola Negri Museum in Lipno for artistic excellence. Negri passed away on August 1, 1987, at the age of 90, leaving behind an indelible impact on cinema.
