Sarah Holland-Batt
Sarah Holland-Batt is a distinguished poet, editor, and critic, currently serving as an Associate Professor at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Renowned for her impactful literary contributions, her latest collection, *The Hazards*, garnered the prestigious Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry, further solidifying her reputation in the literary community.
Throughout her career, Holland-Batt has received several accolades, including fellowships at renowned artistic residencies such as Yaddo and MacDowell in the United States, as well as the Australia Council’s B.R. Whiting Literature Residency in Rome. She has also been honored with a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship, recognizing her significant contributions to Australian literature.
In addition to her literary achievements, Holland-Batt has recently taken a stand on critical social issues. She testified at the Brisbane hearings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, shedding light on the abusive treatment and neglect that her father encountered in an aged care facility. Her testimony addressed the facility's failure to protect him after a whistle-blower disclosed instances of deliberate victimization, as well as the inadequate response from the Aged Care Complaints Commission (ACCC) regarding her formal complaints. Through her advocacy, Holland-Batt continues to raise awareness of the urgent need for reform in aged care services.
