Michael Anthony Hall, born on April 14, 1968, and widely recognized as Anthony Michael Hall, is a prominent American actor acclaimed for his portrayal of Johnny Smith in the television series The Dead Zone, which aired from 2002 to 2007. Hall initially gained fame through his collaborations with director John Hughes, starring in iconic teen films such as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science.

Determined to break free from being pigeonholed as the quintessential nerd, Hall expanded his repertoire by joining the cast of Saturday Night Live during the 1985-1986 season. He ventured into a variety of roles in films like Out of Bounds (1986), Johnny Be Good (1988), and Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands (1990), as well as the critically acclaimed Six Degrees of Separation (1993). After a period of smaller roles in the 1990s, he portrayed the role of Bill Gates in the 1999 television film Pirates of Silicon Valley and appeared in the comedy Freddy Got Fingered in 2001.

In addition to his leading role in The Dead Zone, Hall made a notable appearance in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight in 2008. More recently, he appeared in the hit ABC series The Goldbergs in 2020 and took part in the slasher film Halloween Kills, which was released in 2021.
