Thelma Carpenter

Thelma Carpenter (January 15, 1922 – May 14, 1997) was a talented American jazz vocalist and actress celebrated for her memorable role as "Miss One," the Good Witch of the North, in the acclaimed film adaptation of *The Wiz*. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the only daughter of Fred and Mary Carpenter. Thelma pursued her education at Girls' Commercial High School, where she shared her academic environment with future star Susan Hayward.
