John Lowe
John Lowe, MBE, born on July 21, 1945, is a distinguished former professional darts player from England. He rose to prominence alongside fellow greats Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson, dominating the sport throughout the 1980s. Lowe's remarkable career is highlighted by three World Championship titles, which he clinched in 1979, 1987, and 1993, making him one of the sport's legends. He also achieved significant victories in the Winmau World Masters, securing the title twice, and was a two-time champion in the World Cup singles event. In total, Lowe amassed 15 major titles under the BDO and WDF banners and reached the World No. 1 ranking on four separate occasions.
In a landmark moment for the sport, Lowe became the first player to achieve a televised nine-dart finish in October 1984, showcasing his exceptional skill and precision. His three World Championship victories place him among an elite group of only six players to have accomplished this feat, and he was the first to win the title across three different decades. Along with Phil Taylor, he remains one of only two players to achieve this remarkable milestone.
Dissatisfied with the governance of the British Darts Organisation, Lowe was a pivotal figure in 1993, joining 15 other players in establishing the World Darts Council, which has since evolved into the Professional Darts Corporation. His contributions to the sport have left an indelible mark on the world of darts.
