Gary Graver
Gary Foss Graver (July 20, 1938 – November 16, 2006) was a versatile American filmmaker renowned for his contributions as a director, editor, screenwriter, and cinematographer. Over his extensive career, Graver worked in various capacities on more than 300 films. He is particularly celebrated for his role as the final cinematographer for the legendary Orson Welles, collaborating on Welles' ambitious project, The Other Side of the Wind, which was unveiled to audiences in 2018, nearly five decades after its inception.
Graver's filmmaking journey began in the late 1960s, where he honed his skills as a cinematographer and editor on numerous B-movies, notably those produced by Roger Corman. His talent led him to contribute additional camerawork for John Cassavetes's acclaimed film, A Woman Under the Influence (1974). Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he became a prominent figure in the horror genre, lending his expertise to films such as The Toolbox Murders (1978), Mortuary (1983), and Twisted Nightmare (1988).
In addition to his mainstream work, Graver adopted the alias Robert McCallum to direct a significant number of adult films, where he served as both cinematographer and director on 135 projects. His diverse legacy reflects a profound impact on the film industry, showcasing his adaptability and creativity across various genres.
