Olof Ås

Olof Alvar Hage Ås (September 21, 1892 – September 4, 1949) was a prominent Swedish actor and stage manager, known for his contributions to the theater and film industries. Born in Stockholm, Ås initially embarked on a theatrical career before transitioning to stage management in the 1910s. His expertise in this role was showcased in notable films, including Victor Sjöström's *The Lass from the Stormy Croft* (1917) and Mauritz Stiller's *Gösta Berlings saga* (1922), where he also contributed to special effects.

Ås made his film debut in 1912 with *I lifvets vår*, directed by Paul Garbagni. Over the course of his career, he appeared in nearly 30 films, many of which were helmed by esteemed directors Stiller and Sjöström. His performances and technical skills left a lasting impact on the Swedish film scene during a transformative period in cinema.

Tragically, Olof Ås's life was cut short at the age of 56 due to a road accident in Tureberg, Sollentuna Municipality. His legacy, however, endures through his cinematic contributions and the influential works he helped create, marking him as an important figure in the evolution of Swedish theater and film.
