Whoopi Goldberg is a multifaceted American entertainer, known for her work as a comedian, actress, singer-songwriter, political activist, and talk show host. She first captivated audiences with her film debut in 1985's The Color Purple, portraying Celie, a deeply oppressed African American woman in the South. This powerful performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and her first Golden Globe Award. In 1990, she starred as Oda Mae Brown, a psychic aiding a murdered man (played by Patrick Swayze) in the hit film Ghost, which garnered her a second Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Goldberg's impressive filmography includes iconic roles in Sister Act and its sequel, The Lion King, Made in America, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Girl, Interrupted, and Rat Race. She is also well-remembered for her character Guinan on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Terry Dolittle in Jumpin' Jack Flash.
