Winston Rekert
Winston Houghton Rekert (June 10, 1949 – September 14, 2012) was a prominent Canadian actor celebrated for his significant contributions to television and film. He gained widespread recognition for his roles in the Canadian series *Adderly* and *Neon Rider*.
Rekert's film career included a notable performance as Detective Langevin in the 1985 drama *Agnes of God*. That same year, he earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Actor at the 6th Genie Awards for his compelling performance in *Walls*.
From 1986 to 1988, he showcased his talents as the lead in *Adderly*, a comedic take on the spy genre, which earned him a Gemini Award in 1987 for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Continuing Dramatic Role.
After *Adderly* ended, Rekert collaborated with his childhood friend Danny Virtue to create *Neon Rider*, which aired from 1990 to 1995. In this series, he portrayed Michael Terry, a therapist managing a ranch for at-risk youth, while also contributing as a writer, director, and producer. His involvement with the series extended to advocacy, as he became the national spokesperson for Youth at Risk.
In 2003, he received a second Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Guest Role in a Dramatic Series for his role in *Blue Murder*. In recognition of his lifetime accomplishments, he was honored with the Sam Payne Lifetime Achievement Award in April 2012. Rekert passed away at the age of 63 after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a rich legacy in Canadian entertainment.
