Len Garry, a notable figure in the early British music scene, contributed his talents on the tea chest bass for the Quarry Men during 1957 and 1958. This band, which would eventually evolve into The Beatles, initially embraced skiffle music, a genre that included elements of rock'n'roll. The tea chest bass was a common choice among young bands of that era, favored for its affordability compared to electric bass instruments.

Garry's connection to the Quarry Men was facilitated by his friendship with Ivan Vaughan, another member from their school at the Liverpool Institute, which also nurtured talents like Paul McCartney and George Harrison. He stepped into the band around mid-1957, taking over from the lesser-known Bill Smith. However, Garry's involvement with the band was cut short in 1958 when he was struck by tubercular meningitis, leading to a severe hospitalization and a near-fatal coma.

Despite his brief tenure, Garry's legacy continued, as he was later invited to participate in a reunion performance in 1994 alongside former Quarry Men members Rod Davis, Eric Griffiths, Pete Shotton, and Colin Hanton, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the momentous meeting between Lennon and McCartney. While his time with the Quarry Men was limited, Garry remains a cherished part of the band's history.
