Jeffrey Segal
Jeffrey Segal (1 August 1920 – 5 February 2015) was a distinguished English actor and scriptwriter whose career spanned several decades. He made his film debut as an extra in the 1934 movie Jew Süss, but it was during the 1960s that he became a familiar face on British television. Segal appeared in numerous beloved series, including Callan, Z-Cars, The Protectors, Terry and June, The Pallisers, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, and the iconic Dad's Army.
His memorable roles included Arthur Perkins in the children's comedy Rentaghost and a henpecked hotel guest, credited as Mr. Heath, in the classic Fawlty Towers episode "Gourmet Night." Segal also made appearances in Yes Minister, The Sweeney, and Minder. In the mid-1980s, he featured in the mini-series Oliver Twist and Vanity Fair, alongside an episode of Jonathan Creek.
A versatile performer, Segal had a significant presence on British radio, where he was part of the BBC Drama Repertory Company. He showcased his talent in productions like Troilus and Cressida and Henry V, and he contributed scripts for shows such as "Superintendent Pepper Remembers" and "The Dales."
In theater, Segal's experience was extensive, including performances in "The Queen's Highland Servant" at the Savoy Theatre and Love's Labour's Lost at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park. He also took on roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, notably in Much Ado About Nothing alongside Ralph Fiennes, leaving a lasting legacy in the performing arts.
