Michael James Latimer (September 6, 1941 – June 25, 2011) was a distinguished British actor whose career spanned television, stage, and film, later evolving into writing, directing, and producing. Born in Calcutta to a thriving family business, he received his education at Leys School in Cambridge, where he excelled in middle-distance running and rugby, representing the English Schoolboys Team. Following his schooling, Latimer honed his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), emerging into the entertainment industry through cabaret revues and stepping in for Peter Cook in the acclaimed New York adaptation of Beyond the Fringe.

Latimer's work in theatre encompassed a variety of repertory and West End productions, while his television credits were extensive. He featured prominently in series such as The Avengers (1966-67), Van der Valk (1972-73) as Johnny Kroon, and Rumpole of the Bailey (1988), among others. His filmography includes roles in notable films like A Man for All Seasons (1966) and Sweeney! (1977).

In 1972, Latimer directed the first UK tours for Johnny Nash and Bob Marley and founded Bedrock Productions, which achieved success with multiple top twenty hits in the German music charts. His television writing credits include The Rovers (1970) and episodes of Sons and Daughters (1983). An educator at RADA and other institutions, he directed 37 theatre productions and taught in Australia. Latimer passed away at Trinity Hospice in Clapham, London, at the age of 69.
