Jetta Goudal (July 12, 1891 – January 14, 1985) was a prominent Dutch-born American actress celebrated for her significant contributions to the silent film era in Hollywood. Born Juliette Henriette Goudeket in Amsterdam to a well-off diamond cutter and his wife, Goudal's journey into acting began on Broadway in 1921, where she adopted her stage name.

Her cinematic debut came with a small role in Sidney Olcott's 1922 film, *Timothy's Quest*, which set the stage for her transition to Hollywood. Goudal gained recognition with her performance in *The Bright Shawl* (1923) and received acclaim for her role in the 1925 film *Salome of the Tenements*, adapted from Anzia Yezierska's novel about life in New York’s Jewish community. This success led to lucrative collaborations with notable figures like producer/director Cecil B. DeMille, making her one of the top box office attractions of the late 1920s.

Goudal's career took a dramatic turn when she sued DeMille for breach of contract, winning a landmark case after he failed to substantiate his claims of financial loss. Her later works included *The Cardboard Lover* (1928) and *Lady of the Pavements* (1929). Despite her bold activism for actors' rights, which led some studios to shun her, Goudal made her final film appearance in *Business and Pleasure* (1932) alongside Will Rogers.

After marrying art director Harold Grieve in 1930, she shifted her focus to a successful interior design business. Goudal passed away in Los Angeles and is interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In recognition of her impact on the film industry, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
