Helen Hopkins
Helen Hopkins is a distinguished theatre artist and co-founder of The Shift Theatre, alongside Carolyn Bock. Their collaboration has produced notable works such as "Two Sisters and a Piano" and "Fred," showcased at The Dog Theatre in Footscray. Among their significant achievements is the acclaimed play "The Girls in Grey," which highlights the experiences of Australian army nurses during World War I. This production has enjoyed a successful run at Theatre Works in St Kilda and has toured extensively across Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia. In 2012, it was included in the VCE Drama curriculum and is published by Currency Press.
Helen's extensive theatrical repertoire includes performances in classic works like "Twelfth Night" and "Julius Caesar," presented at the Melbourne, Adelaide, and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals with Essential Theatre. She has graced the stage in "The Merry Wives of Windsor" at fortyfive downstairs, "Wuthering Heights" in Ripponlea, and "Much Ado About Nothing" across various locations including Perth and Adelaide. Her role in "Away" with the Melbourne Theatre Company further demonstrates her versatility, while her performances at La Mama Theatre include a diverse range of productions such as "Lost in Ringwood" and "Macbeth X."
In addition to her stage accomplishments, Helen has had prominent roles in films like "The Marey Project," "Hamlet X," and "Sensitive New Age Killer" (SNAK). She is also actively involved in the arts community as a member of La Mama Theatre’s Committee of Management.
