Puneeth Rajkumar
Puneeth Rajkumar (March 17, 1975 – October 29, 2021), affectionately called Appu, was a celebrated figure in Kannada cinema, recognized as an actor, playback singer, film producer, television host, and philanthropist. He was the youngest son of the iconic Dr. Rajkumar, a revered actor in Indian film history. Over his illustrious career, Puneeth emerged as one of the leading stars in Kannada films, taking on prominent roles in 32 feature films.
His journey in the film industry began at a young age, showcasing his talent as a child actor in notable films such as Vasantha Geetha (1980), Bhagyavantha (1981), and Bettada Hoovu (1985). His performance in Bettada Hoovu earned him the prestigious National Film Award for Best Child Artist, along with Karnataka State Awards for his roles in Chalisuva Modagalu and Eradu Nakshatragalu.
Puneeth's career took off in earnest with his leading role in the blockbuster Appu (2002). Over three decades, he garnered numerous accolades, including one National Film Award, four Karnataka State Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and five SIIMA Awards. In recognition of his contributions to cinema, Mysuru University awarded him an honorary Doctorate. Following his untimely passing, the Karnataka government honored him posthumously with the Karnataka Ratna, the state's highest civilian honor, on November 1, 2022.
