Eric Jacobson, born on July 25, 1970, is a renowned puppeteer and Muppet performer celebrated for his contributions to the beloved Muppet franchise. Since 2001, he has served as the primary successor to Frank Oz's iconic characters, bringing a new life to classic roles.
Jacobson's journey with the Muppets began in 1997 when he first took on the character Bert, officially becoming a cast member in 2000. His talents quickly expanded, and in 2002, he diversified his performances by introducing new segments for Grover, notably the educational "Global Grover." During this time, he also collaborated with fellow puppeteer David Rudman to portray Cookie Monster, a partnership that lasted until 2002 when Rudman was chosen to take on the role full-time.
In addition to his work on Sesame Street, Jacobson made significant contributions to "The Book of Pooh" in 2001, portraying Piglet and Kanga. His versatility shone through in "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" (2002) where he took on multiple characters, including Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Animal.
