Taavi Eelmaa, an accomplished Estonian actor born on June 15, 1971, in Tallinn, has established a significant presence in both theater and film. He hails from a family of performers, being the son of noted actor Aleksander Eelmaa and Reet Eelmaa. Eelmaa pursued his passion for acting at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he graduated in 1996 alongside classmates like Karin Tammaru and Ain Prosa.

Following his graduation, Taavi Eelmaa dedicated six years to the Estonian Drama Theatre in Tallinn before joining the Von Krahl Theatre in 2002, where he continues to perform. His film career commenced with the 1993 short film "Merehaigus" (Seasickness), directed by Rainer Sarnet. Eelmaa gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of Theo in the 2007 drama "Sügisball" (Autumn Ball), directed by Veiko Õunpuu, which was based on the novel by Mati Unt. He further showcased his talent as the lead in Õunpuu's 2009 dark comedy "Püha Tõnu kiusamine" (The Temptation of St. Tony), a film that represented Estonia at the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, although it did not reach the final shortlist.

In addition to his film work, Eelmaa has made memorable appearances on television, particularly as Priit Post in the crime series "Kelgukoerad" on Kanal 2. His contributions to the arts have made him a respected figure in the Estonian cultural landscape.
