Turgay Tanülkü
Turgay Tanülkü, born in 1953 in Uşak, Turkey, is a distinguished theater artist known for his impactful contributions to the performing arts. He graduated from the Theater Department of the Ankara State Conservatory in 1976, the same year he began his career at the Ankara State Theater. Tanülkü furthered his training by attending drama courses at the Leningrad Theater Academy in 1970-71, where he also studied Psychogymnastics.
Throughout his career, Tanülkü has been a pioneer in establishing theater groups for diverse communities, including schools for the visually impaired, children's rehabilitation centers, and eight regional prisons across Turkey. He continues to work with these groups, fostering creativity and expression through theater. From 1987 to 1989, he imparted his expertise by teaching Acting and Stage courses at the Department of Theater at Dokuz Eylul University.
Notably, Tanülkü received the International Directing Award in Konya in 1984. He was also honored with the Peace Award from the German Green Party for his direction of plays like "Laws and People" and "Guest," performed by the Ankara Semi-Open Prison Players in 1988-89. In addition to his extensive theater career, he has contributed to film, television, and voice acting. Currently, he remains an active member of the State Theaters’ artist roster, continuing to inspire aspiring actors and theater enthusiasts.
