Rodney Hicks
Rodney Hicks, born on March 28, 1974, in Montgomery Township, Pennsylvania, is a distinguished American actor celebrated for his contributions to both stage and television. Raised in Philadelphia, Hicks completed his education at Roxborough High School in 1992 and opted to pursue acting full-time after leaving college in 1994.
Hicks made a significant mark in the theater world with his Broadway debut in the groundbreaking musical *Rent*, as part of the original cast. His early career included notable performances alongside Lauryn Hill in *Bring in the Morning - A Wake up Call*, and he showcased his talent in John Adams and June Jordan's pop opera, *I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky*, under the direction of the renowned Peter Sellars. His Broadway credits continued with a role in the 2000 revival of *Jesus Christ Superstar* as Peter and a portrayal of Joe Bonaparte in the revival of *Golden Boy*.
In 2006, he was featured in the Off-Broadway revival of *Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris*. Hicks returned to *Rent* in 2008 to play Benjamin Coffin III, marking the end of the original production's run, with his performance captured in *RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway*.
Most recently, he starred as Clarence Norris in Kander & Ebb's *The Scottsboro Boys*, a critically acclaimed musical that garnered multiple nominations and awards, including two Lucille Lortel Awards. The production ran at Off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre and later moved to the Guthrie Theatre, showcasing Hicks' versatility and talent.
